Devon understands that what is at stake in her clients’ cases isn’t simply abstract legal theory – this is their life, their family, their future. Devon’s no-nonsense style, genuine compassion, and humor make her the ideal attorney for anyone facing a domestic relations dispute, whether in court or via an out-of-court resolution.

Devon B. Humphreys

While Devon B. Humphreys did not always know which area of the law she wanted to practice, she knew from a young age that she wanted to litigate. Not for the stereotypical reasons one often hears when discussing a person’s particular potential in a legal career – not for the money or the perceived “clout”, and certainly not because she likes to argue. Instead, because she wanted to undertake a career where she could make a meaningful difference in others’ lives, and do so directly in working with those individuals personally to have such an impact. Ideally, she wanted to be able to provide people navigating exceptionally challenging situations in life the greatest amount of practical assistance, guidance, and support in achieving a resolution to such challenges and enable them to come out the other side better than before. Litigation, of any kind, tends to be one of those challenges, it turns out. Irrespective of the subject matter area of any such litigation, Devon understands and recognizes that the toll—financial, emotional, mental, and sometimes physical—it takes on the client is substantial and not to be trivialized, and she practices with a client-centered, personalized approach to each and every case she takes on, tailoring her work on each case to the individual client’s particular needs and desires accordingly.

Devon’s primary practice area is domestic relations, working with clients as they field any sort of family law matter that may arise, including divorce (contested and/or uncontested), separation, equitable distribution, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, pre- or post-nuptial agreements, pursuing or defending contempt actions, protective orders, domestic assault & battery, and the like. In addition, Devon has been a certified Guardian ad litem for children in Virginia since 2019.

Prior to relocating her geographic practice epicenter to the Winchester, Virginia area in 2023, Devon worked as an associate attorney in Loudoun County-based general practice law firms where she gained experience in numerous areas of the law, in addition to her domestic practice, to include general civil litigation, criminal defense, and property transactions. Since she began her legal career, her main practice area has always been in family law, however, and she approaches this very unique and emotionally charged area of the law with the utmost respect and consideration for the mental and emotional burden such cases take on her clients.

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Devon earned her B.S. in Psychology from the University of New Mexico in 2011. She then worked at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina as a project manager for multi-center clinical research trials prior to enrolling at William & Mary Law School. During law school, Devon was a competitive powerlifter and, at her peak, had a deadlift one-rep-max of 365 lbs. (this is impressive, in case you were wondering). When she isn't working, Devon enjoys bedrotting, powerlifting (though not quite at the same level as before), spending time—outdoors if possible—with her daughter, and will take any available opportunity to pet a goat.
